Barkan Winery is an Israeli wine producer known for its quality wines. The winery surrounds visitors with thousands of dunams of various grape varieties, offering a unique experience not found anywhere else, just half an hour from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Located at Kibbutz Hulda, Barkan Winery's visitor center invites guests to immerse themselves in the world of wine, rich in flavors, aromas, and colors, and is the largest of its kind in Israel.
From its early days, Barkan Winery has focused on the most important factor - the quality of the grapes. Quality varieties from around the world have been planted in Barkan's vineyards across the country. Today, the winery boasts dozens of varieties spread over more than 10,000 dunams of vineyards, with each variety specifically tailored to the best growing areas for it.
For over 20 years, Barkan Winery has consistently won a variety of prestigious medals and awards in the world's leading wine competitions. The winemakers at Barkan have earned a global reputation thanks to the quality of their wines and their bold combinations of varietals.
Ido Lewinsohn is the head winemaker at Barkan. At the age of 39, he successfully completed the Master of Wine (MW) exams in 2020 and became the second MW in Israel and one of 409 Masters worldwide, of which about 100 are winemakers. A graduate in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Milan, Ido has gained experience in Tuscany (Sassicaia) and has worked as a winemaker in vineyards in the Hula Valley, Languedoc in France, Tasmania in Australia, and Israel. Before joining Barkan, he was the head winemaker at Recanati Winery. He teaches wine tasting in various settings and strives to visit vineyards around the world to learn, taste, and draw new inspiration and ideas. Ido is married with three children and resides in Kfar Malal in the Sharon region.
